What is Paprika?

Paprika is a red-coloured mild Spice that has a hint of sweetness. It is made from dried sweet red peppers ground to make a fine powder. Different variations of paprika include smoked paprika, sweet paprika and hot paprika. Its main purpose is to add colour and flavour to food, and it is an especially popular spice in Indian and Moroccan dishes.

Foods to add Paprika to?

Paprika is one of those spice blends that can be added to every dish for a touch of sweetness, colour, and flavour. If you are looking to make a dish that looks visually appealing, then you need to incorporate paprika in your cooking. Below is an example of the foods that paprika can be added to. Feel free to use any variation of paprika to the below dishes for extra flavour.

 

Chicken – Paprika can be added to any chicken dish and can be used as a spice Rub to add colour and flavour.

Potatoes/Sweet Potatoes- Paprika can be used as a marinate for potatoes before adding them to the grill. It will add a lovely red colour to your potatoes and a spicy hot flavour too.

Soup- You can use smoked paprika to add a smoky flavour to your soup as well as vibrant colour.

Salad- A little sprinkle of paprika on a salad will add beautiful colour to the dish and flavour.

Beef or pork Stew- Paprika is a fantastic addition to beef or pork stews and will add a hint of sweetness as well as give the stew a beautiful colour.

What other Spices can be used with Paprika?

Paprika mixed with Ginger and garlic is a spice blend that will transform all your dishes, including Salmon, roast chicken, beef and chicken stews and Tortilla wraps. This spice blend combination is meant to add a beautiful aromatic flavour to your dishes.

Sweet paprika with cayenne pepper- This Spice blend is a mixture of hot and sweet and will add a spicy-sweet flavour to your dishes.

What other Spices to use instead of Paprika?

There are other spices that can be a great replacement for paprika, including cayenne pepper and chili powder. These are hotter in taste than paprika but will deliver the much-desired colour in your food, however, be cautious if using these spices as too much can mean the food will be un-eatable.
